Yoga Class Descriptions

Beginners- Basic level classes are for students who are establishing a basic knowledge of yoga.  Instruction and pace will adapt to the class level. Attention to yoga therapeutics and it application to the individual's needs, precise alignment instruction and encouragement in developing conscious awareness utilizing the breath and inner body taught in a compassionate and friendly environment.  Some students tell me they feel so comfortable in this class that they "plan to stay at this level for a long time".

Yoga Flow & Mixed Level - Appropriate for Advanced beginners to intermediate. Vinyasa is a term that covers a broad range of yoga classes. The word Vinyasa means “breath-synchronized movement.” In other words, the teacher will instruct you to move from one pose to the next on an inhale or an exhale. This technique is sometimes also called Vinyasa Flow, or just Flow because of the smooth way that the poses run together and become like a dance. Expect a stronger practice which will include Back bending asana, inversions and partner work.

Continuing Yoga w/ Kelli Carmean

A native of Minnesota, Kelli has taught anthropology and archaeology at Eastern Kentucky University since moving to Lexington in 1993. She started learning yoga in 1990 when she happened to walk into Rodney Yee’s Oakland, California studio. Hooked from class one, she considers herself a life-long yoga learner. “I find it so incredible that I can still come to class and have these tremendous ‘ah-ha’ moments. Even if I don’t, I’m just grateful to be with a group of people doing yoga.” Stemming from Kelli’s Iyengar background, her class focuses on breaking down poses to find proper alignment, using props to discover alignment, understanding our own bodies, and just having fun being on the mat. In her non-yoga free time Kelli writes...check out her most recent book, "Creekside: An Archaeological Novel."

Kripalu - with Anita Courtney Wednesday 7:00p

Kripalu Yoga is a combination of breathing practices, mindfulness techniques and postures designed to strengthen, stretch and relax the body, mind and spirit. The class is led so students can choose to do the postures at the most basic level or at a more advanced level.  Each class ends with a deeply relaxing restorative pose designed to integrate the practice.  Optional “om-work” is offered to inspire students to take yoga off the mat to bring more relaxation, clarity and joy to life.
